The hypocrisy of the Scooter Libby Verdict

Pardon me, but am I missing something here?

They convict Scooter Libby of lying under oath, obstruction of investigation of a leak. From the Al-AP;

"In the end, jurors said they did not believe Libby's main defense: that he hadn't lied but merely had a bad memory."

They're kidding right?

So when Clinton was charged with obstructing a grand jury and lying, it's not the same thing? Ånd, if anyone remembers watching all the tape from the hearing, how many times did he say "I don't recall" and the classic "it depends on what the word "is" is. What a bunch of BS!

And, of course, who can forget that classic tale of Sandy "the burglar" Berger stuffing classified documents that could have been damaging to the Clinton administration in regards to our decision to invade Iraq and hunt down UBL. It was "dismissed" as just a "sloppy" mistake and he was never charged with anything. Now, if that was you or me, we'd be toast. So who is trying to fool' who here? Now, sometimes I can be as sharp as a cotton swap, but just because you butter a puppy, that don't make it a biscuit, (a couple of dan rather like metaphors there) meaning they can charge Libby with one "crime" and then convict him of a completely different one. But in the case of both Jethro and Berger, the defense is "oh. it's just about sex" and "it was a sloppy mistake, Berger didn't mean to take the documents out of the secured area." Bite me!

The orignial investigation against Libby was to find out who leaked Valerie Plame's name. Well, Plame wasn't an operative in the CIA at the time. Her name was already in print in her loser husband, Joe Wilson's book. To me, this shows even more that this was nothing more than a witch-hunt to try and nail anyone in the Bush administration. They wanted to go after Rove & Cheney, but the trail ran cold and they had to settle for Libby.

This is somewhat with like charging a person with robbing a store and then putting them on trial for rape. I mean, they didn't even charge him with the original complaint. I hope he does appeal the decision and wins. But in any case, his life now will never be the same. Even if they overturn the guilty verdict, Libby will forever be tainted with being the one that leaked the name of Valerie Plame, much like Richard Jewell was tainted by the Atlanta Olympic bombing when it was Eric Rudolph that did it. The whole unbelievable thing is, Valerie Plame was not a covert agent. She was an adminstrative operative and had lost covert status when she was planted in DC. Her husband wrote about her and from what I understand, anyone in DC knew who and what Valerie Plame was. So, it was a crime for the rest of America to find out who she is when everyone in DC knew who she was to begin with?

Jeez, that's why most Americans don't and can't trust the government. With this kind of petty crap going on, political witchhunts, it's a wonder they stay in power anyway.

Peace,
